The first-ever Dusit Hospitality Education Conference was held in Bangkok on 2-3 December 2019, bringing together team members from DHE’s various business units to ideate, strategize, and create a roadmap for sustainable success based on nurturing a culture of excellence in providing the highest quality hospitality education.
Held at Baan Dusit Thani’s elegant events space, the Dancing Hall, the two-day conference was also attended by executives representing Dusit Hotels & Resorts, who worked with leaders from DHE, Dusit Thani College, Dusit Hospitality Management College, and Le Cordon Bleu Dusit Culinary School, to discuss how Dusit’s education and hotel business could be better integrated to offer more experience and benefits for students, create a pool of skilled, employable talent for both the industry and Dusit properties, enhance learning content, and deliver more revenue opportunities for all units involved. The conference was opened with an inspiring presentation by Group CEO Khun Suphajee Suthumpun, who highlighted the external challenges facing the hotel business and hospitality education (particularly increased competition, the rise of digital learning, and the shifting needs of learners), which set the agenda for the discussions and planning to follow. Among the other speakers providing plenty of food for thought were guest speaker Khun Chanond Ruangkritya, CEO Ananda Development, one of Thailand’s leading condominium developers, who explained the importance of business agility and the decentralized organizational structures to support this; and Khun Siradej Donavanik, Managing Director, ASAI Hotels, whose reiteration of management guru Peter Drucker’s quote – “Culture eats strategy for breakfast” – was used to underscore the importance of maintaining a strong organizational culture while shaping the future direction of DHE. During the interactive conference, delegates brainstormed the ideal ‘new world’ of Dusit Hospitality Education and worked in groups to create and present several initiatives that DHE’s business units will now collaborate on to implement.
